Mainely Good Art: Tiny Escapes
As I painted memories from our time in Maine, one word kept bubbling up: sparkling. Everywhere I looked—the glint of water, the sunshine—it was like Maine was casting its own kind of magic. Just twenty minutes after our plane touched down in Portland, we were savoring lobster rolls with waves crashing against rocky cliffs nearby. Oh, and did I mention there was a lighthouse too?
I knew Maine would be memorable, but I didn’t realize how deeply it would embrace us. Time and again, she rolled out her hospitality with stunning sunsets, magical ocean views, and moments that have forever imprinted on our hearts. This year, in quieter moments, I’ve returned to those memories through brush and color.
When I look at these paintings, I see the sunlight gleaming off my children’s hair as they explored tide pools, splashed in the surf, and skipped rocks along the shore. This collection has been a wholesome and welcome escape from the hardships of 2025. Time has moved differently this year, inviting me to paint smaller, to turn inward.
Included here are intimate Acadia landscapes and sweet still lifes—simple fruity picnic fare inspired by classics like Blueberries for Sal and playful nods like When Life Gives You Lemons. Grand, sweeping canvases will return, but for now, these tiny escapes capture the sweet nothings that, in truth, mean everything.
My hope is that these paintings transport you back to carefree days and sparkling memories spent with loved ones.
These pieces will be available to my Studio Insiders on Tuesday, September 23rd at 10 a.m. EST—and open to the public at 12 p.m. that day. Click here to shop the paintings.
